On Monday, October 17, the Center for Resource Solutions presented MCE with a Green Power Leadership Award at the annual Renewable Energy Markets conference, recognizing MCE’s championship of renewable energy as an accelerator in the development of green power markets.
“It’s an honor to be amongst the many diverse recipients of this prestigious award,” said Dawn Weisz, CEO of MCE. “By replacing fossil fuel purchases with renewable energy like solar, geothermal and wind power, MCE’s customers have achieved tremendous greenhouse gas reductions. Our customers are exercising their electricity choice to help in the fight against climate change.”
MCE joins the distinguished ranks of previous Green Power Market Development Award recipients including Apple Inc., the U.S. Green Building Council and The White House Council on Environmental Quality.
Since its launch in 2010, MCE has prevented an estimated 131 million pounds of polluting carbon dioxide emissions through customer participation in its Light Green 50% renewable energy and Deep Green 100% renewable energy services. MCE reinvests half of the premium from its 100% renewable service towards the development of new local solar projects, such as the 10 megawatt MCE Solar One project in Richmond, CA.
With ambitious renewable and carbon-free goals, MCE plans to increase its Light Green energy service to be 80% renewable and 95% greenhouse gas-free by 2025. MCE’s Deep Green energy service, with power generated from 100% non-polluting, Green-e Energy certified wind, solar power and biogas allows both residential and commercial customers to support a local, clean energy future.
“Marin Municipal Water District has long been a supporter of renewable energy,” said MMWD Board President Cynthia Koehler. “As one of Marin’s largest electricity users, upgrading to MCE’s Deep Green program means we will be reducing our annual greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 2,800 metric tons a year. This is the greenhouse gas equivalent to removing nearly 600 gasoline-powered cars from the road for one year.”
