Energy Rebates & Tax Credits
The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) is a 10-year plan that includes energy rebates and tax credits to help you save money on your energy bills while benefiting the environment.
It includes rebates and tax credits for:
New electric appliances
New and used electric vehicles
Home weatherization and energy efficiency upgrades
Rooftop solar and battery storage system installations
Eligibility
By providing information in advance, we hope to help you make the most of available incentives as you plan for upcoming home projects.
Federal Tax Credits
All tax credits are available now to homeowners and renters who made eligible purchases starting January 1, 2023. Be sure to save your receipts for tax filing season.
State Rebates
Final information about these rebates is to be determined and MCE is unable to answer questions about timing, next steps, or how to access the rebates at this time. Please visit the California Energy Commission’s IRA webpage for more information.
State rebates are expected to be available in 2024. The income eligibility limits for Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, and Solano Counties have not been determined yet, but are estimated to be around $220,000 for a household of four. Households that earn up to 150% of the area’s median income will be eligible. If you make more, there is no need to wait for the state rebates to begin your home project, as your income would not be eligible.
MCE Rebates
Income eligibility differs by rebate. Visit the MCE rebate program page, linked in the table below to learn about participation requirements. MCE is awaiting information on whether our rebate programs can be combined with the rebates and tax credits offered through the Inflation Reduction Act.
