Community Choice Energy programs put local governments in charge of purchasing electricity for their residents and businesses. In California, they have focused on procuring far more renewable energy than PG&E currently provides. Marin’s and Sonoma’s programs are operational, and San Francisco’s begins to ramp up this Spring. Meanwhile, San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties have each created their own Community Choice programs. What does this explosion of new programs mean for CALSEIA members, and how can our members profitably participate in existing and newly formed programs?
