MCE’s Program Plug-in series takes a deep dive into offerings available to MCE customers and how you can plug in to energy savings, bill relief, resiliency, safety upgrades, electric vehicles, and more.

Falling behind on your energy bill can be stressful. MCE wants to help. Find out if you qualify for the following programs that offer debt forgiveness, bill relief, and free energy-saving upgrades.

Arrearage Management Plan (AMP) and MCE Cares Credit

AMP is a payment plan to help customers catch up on their energy bills. Eligible residential customers may qualify for debt forgiveness up to $8,000.

As an additional benefit from MCE, customers who qualify for AMP also automatically receive the MCE Cares Credit, a $10/month bill credit through September 2022.

Eligibility

To qualify, you must:

  • Be enrolled in CARE or FERA.
  • Owe at least $500.
  • Be over 90 days past due and a PG&E customer for at least 6 months (MCE customers qualify for this program).
  • Have made at least 1 one-time payment.

Application Process

  1. Call PG&E at 1 (800) 743-5000. Their Call Center Service Representative will help walk you through the program and enrollment process.
  2. PG&E will review your eligibility and determine if your household meets the requirements for enrollment.
  3. Once approved, you will receive a customer notification confirming your enrollment within 1 to 3 business days.
  4. As an additional benefit from MCE, if you are approved for the AMP program, you also automatically receive the MCE Cares Credit, a $10/month bill credit through September 2022.

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

LIHEAP is a federally funded assistance program that can provide up to $3,000 per year to help customers pay past due energy costs. ​​​LIHEAP offers a one-time per calendar year payment to help you pay your past-due utility bills and prevent utility disconnection. LIHEAP can also provide in-home weatherization services to improve your home’s energy efficiency.

Weatherization does more than just improve the health and safety of your home. It can also drastically reduce your heating and cooling costs, which make up over half of the average home energy bill.
