SAN RAFAEL and CONCORD, Calif. — This Valentine’s Day is sure to be electric with an additional $3.25 million in federal funding to support Bay Area residents and businesses. Local electricity provider, MCE, will use the funds to expand access to clean energy programs that customers love a whole watt in Contra Costa, Marin, Napa and Solano.

“On behalf of MCE and our customers we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Representatives Garamendi and Huffman and Senators Feinstein and Padilla for their efforts to secure this funding,” said Gabe Quinto, MCE Board Director and City of El Cerrito Councilmember. “MCE has shown the value of partnership in accelerating California’s clean energy goals and we’re proud to continue investing in our communities.”

The $3.25 million includes:

  • $750,000 supported by Representative John Garamendi to expand MCE’s Healthy Homes program, which offers health and safety upgrades to residents,
  • $2 million supported by Representative Jared Huffman to expand EV charging station rebates at multifamily and workplace properties to increase access to clean transportation, and
  • $500,000 supported by Senators Feinstein and Padilla to increase adoption of energy storage in the Bay Area.

MCE is also committing $900,000 to the EV and energy storage programs, bringing the total new investment to $4.15 million. Since the start of service in 2010, MCE has reinvested $214 million in its member communities including local renewable energy generation, energy efficiency programs, battery storage, EV charging, and low-income EV rebates. With MCE keeping hard-earned dollars from Bay Area residents and businesses circulating locally, they can truly feel the L-O-V-E for local clean energy.
